Following an independent review the government announced in July 2014 Health and Work Service (now Fit for Work Scheme. FFW)
There will be a phased introduction which will be completed by May 2015. The Department of Work and Pensions have produced guidance notes for employees, employers and GP’s about how FFW operates.

The service provides free health and work advice (via a website and telephone) to help with absence prevention.
The trigger point is 4 weeks absence (actual or if a GP considers it likely).
Consent from the employee is needed at each stage of the process.
