April 2010 - Breaches of the Data Protection Act
The Information Commissioner will have the power to impose a fine for breaches of the Data Protection Act of up to £500,000.
The fines are intended for serious breaches of the Data Protection Act, however, there is no exception for small businesses although the financial resources of a business will be taken into account when determining the level of fine.
